Lesser Ritual of the Pentagram

The following is the general outline for how I personally prefer to do the Lesser Ritual of the Pentagram. You will be speaking the words in regular text and vibrating the words in bold, anything in brackets is either explaining the meaning, giving instructions, or giving you a phonetic pronunciation.

Begin by facing East and breathing the 4 fold breathe, in to the count of 4, hold for the count of 4, out for the count of 4, hold for the count of four, repeat. Do this until you feel calm and peaceful, and if possible continue the rhythm throughout the entire operation.

Next visualize your body growing larger and larger with every breathe, and turning into a great tree with your roots going to the very center of the earth, and your branches and trunk growing as large as the universe. When you are as big and brilliant as you can possibly visualize, next visualize your heart center, this is Tiphareth in the western tradition or your Anahata (heart) Chakra in the eastern traditions, glowing with a brilliant white light.

As you Vibrate the words in the first 4 steps of the qabalistic cross (steps 1 to 5) Visualize a beam of light exploding from your heart center to the ends of the universe in the corresponding directions. Ateh is up, Malkuth is down, Ve-Geburah is right, and Ve-Gedulah is left. So respectively the light will explode from your heart, up through your crown to the ends of the universe, then explodes down through your feet to the ends of the universe, then explodes through your right shoulder to the ends of the universe, then explodes through your left shoulder to the ends of the universe. When you vibrate Le-Olahm, IAO visualize your heart Chakra exploding outward with light until it fills the entire universe.

A note on vibrating: You should FEEL the vibration in your chest and throughout your entire body, this is different for everyone so practice changing and vibrating your voice at different pitches and with varying intensity.

You will be using your index finger and middle finger on your right hand for doing all of the following. This is sometimes called the sword mudra.

  1. Touching the forehead, say Ateh (Thine art).
    (prounounced Ah-Tay)
    (visualize light exploding from your heart, up through your crown to the ends of the universe)
  2. Touching your sexual area, say Malkuth (The Kingdom).
    (Pronounced Mall-Kooth)
    (visualize light exploding from your heart, down through your feet to the ends of the universe)
  3. Touching the right shoulder, say ve-Geburah (and the Power).
    (Pronounced Vay-Geh-Boo-Ra)
    (visualize light exploding from your heart, right through your shoulder to the ends of the universe)
  4. Touching the left shoulder, say ve-Gedulah (and the Glory).
    (Prounounced Vay-Geh-Doo-La)
    (visualize light exploding from your heart, left through your shoulder to the ends of the universe)
  5. Clasping the hands upon the breast, say le-Olahm, IAO (forever, IAO).
    (Pronounced Lee-Oh-Lahm, EEEEE, AHHHH, OHHHHHH)
    (visualize light exploding from your heart, outward in all directions to the ends of the universe)
  6. Facing East, make a Pentagram (that of Earth). Vibrate YHVH. (Yeh-Ho-Vah)
    (While vibrating YHVH give the sign of the enterer, when done finish with the sign of silence)
  7. Turn to the South tracing a circle in white light, do the same, but vibrate ADONAI.
    (Ah-Don-Eye)
    (While vibrating ADONAI give the sign of the enterer, when done finish with the sign of silence)
  8. Turning to the West tracing a circle in white light, do the same, but vibrate EHEIEH.
    (Ay-Hay-Ay)
    (While vibrating EHEIEH give the sign of the enterer, when done finish with the sign of silence)
  9. Turning to the North tracing a circle in white light, do the same, but vibrate AGLA.
    (Ah-Gah-Lah)
    (While vibrating AGLA give the sign of the enterer, when done finish with the sign of silence)
  10. Trace a line of white light back to the East thus completing your magick circle of white light and extend your arms in the form of a Cross, say the following and vibrate the angel names:
  11. Before me Raphael;
    (Visualize the angel manifesting before you in yellow robes holding a caduceus staff)
  12. Behind me Gabriel;
    (Visualize the angel manifesting behind you in blue robes holding a goblet)
  13. On my right hand Michael;
    (Visualize the angel manifesting beside you in red robes holding a flaming sword)
  14. On my left hand Uriel;
    (Visualize the angel manifesting beside you in green robes holding a pentacle on a wood disc)
  15. Above me Metatron;
    (Visualize the angel manifesting above you in white robes holding the book of magickal secrets)
  16. Below me Sandalphon;
    (Visualize the angel manifesting below you in brown robes holding a harp)
  17. For about me flame the Pentagrams,
  18. And within me shines the six-rayed Star (visualize either the hexagram of Solomon or the Unicursal hexagram shining brightly in either, gold, blue, or white at your heart chakra.)
  19. Repeat (1) to (5), the ‘Kabbalistic Cross’.

    Hexagram of Solomon

    Unicursal hexagram

For the banishing version of this ritual you would use a banishing earth pentagram. For the invoking version you would be using the invoking earth pentagram. Either way you should be drawing the pentagram in a brilliant blue light. The pentagrams should be drawn from hip to brow and shoulder to shoulder, this will ensure you draw them the same size. For the invoking pentagram draw from brow to hip then shoulder to shoulder.
See the image below:

The sign of the enterer is to be given at the same time as you vibrate the god names, and is to be followed immediately with the sign of silence. For the sign of the enterer you will pull both hands back by your ears while breathing in, then forcefully step forward with your left foot shooting your hands forward and vibrating the god name with your out breath. For the sign of silence step back and bring your right hand up to your lips as if to say “shhhhh”.

See the figures below:

The Sign of the Enterer and the Sign of Silence

Here is a short version for quick reference in ritual:

  4. Touching the left shoulder, say ve-Gedulah (and the Glory).
  5. Clasping the hands upon the breast, say le-Olahm, IAO (forever, IAO).
  6. Facing East, make a Pentagram (that of Earth). Vibrate YHVH. (Yeh-Ho-Vah)

  8. Turning to the West tracing a circle in white light, do the same, but vibrate EHEIEH.
  9. Turning to the North tracing a circle in white light, do the same, but vibrate AGLA.
  10. Trace a line of white light back to the East thus completing your magick circle of white light and extend your arms in the form of a Cross, say the following and vibrate the angel names:
  11. Before me Raphael;
  12. Behind me Gabriel;
  13. On my right hand Michael;
  14. On my left hand Uriel;
  15. Above me Metatron;
  16. Below me Sandalphon;
  17. For about me flame the Pentagrams,
  18. And within me shines the six-rayed Star
  19. Repeat (1) to (5), the ‘Kabbalistic Cross’.

Beginners should do only the banishing version of this a minimum of once per day for 90 days. This will help build habit and banish negative influences from your life to prepare you for more extensive works later. Ideally you should do this 3 times per day, however many people only do it once upon waking and once before bed. Find what works for you and stick with it.

After the 90 days of doing this ritual you should begin doing the banishing ritual twice per day, and immediately after each banishing you should do the invoking version as well.

The LRP serves to cleanse our bodies, minds, spirits, and places of negative influences with the banishing version, and serves to bring the light of the angels and whatever gods you worship into your energy body to charge you with their energy and blessings.

It is said that the Qabalistic cross and LRP are the philosophers stone and contain within them the divine formula for magick. I personally do this as often as I am able.

Those who regard this ritual as a mere device to invoke or banish spirits, are unworthy to possess it. Properly understood, it is the Medicine of Metals and the Stone of the Wise” — Aleister Crowley

I hope this finds you well, have a fantastic day and may you ignite the light within.
